A brief history on the club

History of Carn Drama Club

Carndonagh has been a center for drama for over 100 years and records show that plays and concerts have been performed in The Colgan Hall since it opened in 1914.
The earliest record we have is of a 1914concert in the Colgan Hall and plays by Carn Drama Club continue to the present day.
The process of archiving information for the club and subsequently this website was undertaken by a member of the Carn Drama Group, Ambrose Mc Creanor in 2016.
It involved the following:

  • Collection of the material from various people:
    • Photos
    • Play Programmes
    • Newspaper articles & photos
    • Play Posters
  • Scanning of all the material into a computer
  • Editing of material using photo editing software
  • Posting of material to Facebook
  • Storing the physical material into 3) Display Folders
    • Play Programmes
    • Newspaper articles & photos
    • Photos

We would like to thank the following people for the material in the archive, Maura Harkin&Margaret O Kane for play programmes, posters, etc,and Alo Tullyfor various photos in the 70s & 80s, and to all others who have contributed, without whom we would not have the archive.
It is of course an ongoing project and hopefully will be continued.
Although we have dates & years on which plays were performed, we unfortunately have no programmes or photos for many of them.
